This historical fiction is based on a real event that I never knew about until I read this book.  It is an interesting perspective about the racism that existed in our past and I thought the author gave us insight to the feelings of those that I don't often think about-American settlers at the time.  I wanted to learn more about the murder of this boy after reading this novel.  It would certainly appeal to intermediate boys.
